Advanced Emergency Medical Technician
FREE Workforce Training
This training program is offered in partnership with Southern Maine Community College and is designed to give students, through lecture, laboratory, and clinical experiences, the knowledge, and skills needed to provide advanced emergency medical care and transportation for patients who access the emergency medical system.
Students will demonstrate proficiency with interventions necessary to provide patient care and transportation including patient assessment, airway management and oxygen administration, cardiac arrest management, shock management, medication administration, and emergency care.
Additionally, the training will provide students with an intense review of didactic and psychomotor experiences that simulates professional practice. Students will also complete a broad clinical experience to sharpen their skills.
Additional topics that will be covered on a comprehensive level shall include ambulance service management, concepts of lifelong learning, quality improvement, and the ALS providers’ role in the community. Students will have the opportunity to perfect assessment-based management through a case scenario approach.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be eligible to take the National Registry Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Certification.
You'll learn how to:

Assess and manage patients with common trauma or medical emergencies appropriately, effectively, and consistently.

Utilize reasoning, problem solving, and decision making skills in the management of patients with common healthcare needs in the pre-hospital setting.

Communicate proficiently and appropriately with patients and as part of a professional healthcare team.

Assume professional and legal responsibility and accountability for actions as a provider of care and member of the profession in the pre-hospital setting

Render emergency medical care as an Advanced EMT in accordance with National and local standards.

Prepare the student to take licensure and certification exams.

Eligibility Requirements
-Maine Resident
-18+ years of age
-High School Diploma or equivalent
-Must have current Maine EMT License
-May not have previously used Maine jobs & Rcovery Funding for training course.
